You’re here, this beautiful bay is yours to enjoy — here’s how to enjoy it safely.
The clear tropical waters in front of the property are one of the highlights of staying on Aore Island. The bay is home to dugongs, sea turtles and other marine life, and you may be lucky enough to encounter them while swimming or snorkelling. Enjoy the water, take your time and always remember that you're sharing the bay with wild marine life.
Swimming in the Bay
The bay is best enjoyed when the water is calm and clear. Conditions can change with the weather, wind and tides, so if the water looks rough or you're unsure about conditions, check with your host before heading in. Avoid swimming around dusk or during rough weather, and children should always be supervised around the water.
Reef Shoes
We provide reef shoes for guests, and recommend wearing them when entering and leaving the water. Aore's shoreline and reef can include coral, rocks and shells that may be sharp underfoot. Reef shoes make exploring the shallows much more comfortable while also helping you avoid accidentally standing directly on coral.
Snorkelling
Masks and snorkels are available for guests to enjoy the bay and its marine life. Please rinse them with fresh water after use and return them inside when you've finished. Leaving equipment outdoors in the tropical sun can quickly damage it.
Take your time while snorkelling and avoid standing on or touching coral. The best way to experience the reef is simply to float above it and watch.
Swimming with Dugongs & Turtles
Seeing a dugong or turtle while you're in the water can be an unforgettable part of your stay. If one appears, stay calm and let the animal decide how close it wants to come. Don't chase, grab or crowd wildlife, and give animals an easy path to swim away.
Sometimes the best wildlife encounters happen when you simply stay still, keep your distance and quietly watch.
Respect the Ocean
Please don't remove coral, shells or marine life from the reef, and avoid leaving anything behind in the water or on the beach. Aore's marine environment is part of what makes this place so special, and a little care from everyone helps keep it that way.
